As we reflect on probably the most successful Mini Leagues we have ever had it is also appropriate to let everyone know some of our plans for the future. While we have made improvements to our facilities in the recent past there is still much more work needed. In the coming weeks we will begin the process of verti-draining all our grass pitches and training areas at the not so insignificant cost of more than 15,000 euro.
We shall continue the work of fencing off our senior grass pitch and begin to fence off the perimeter of our grounds in an effort to curtail the activities of the rabbits. We shall also install more floodlights on the training areas to improve the lighting there. We will replace the damaged fencing around our all-weather pitch and look to replace the flooring in our coffee shop. A major priority for the club is the installation of wheelchair access to the coffee shop by building a ramp and installing a new door.
To do all this work will take a considerable amount of money but we are confident we can do this. We are very grateful to all our sponsors, without your help we could not continue to grow our club in the way we have over the last number of years. We are also very anxious to attract any new sponsors as we feel as our boys and girls are worthy of your support.
In the last couple of years we have won two All Ireland Cup's and our boys and girls have won leagues and cups in their respective divisions. The vast majority of our teams perform in the top divisions and our coaches continue to increase their knowledge of the game by attending the various coaching courses put on by the FAI. We shall continue to support all our coaches in this field and in the child protection field with Safeguarding courses for all our coaches.
Another big success has been the newly revamped Academy, where over 200 children aged 3 - 8 join us every Sunday from 10:00am to 11:00am. The Academy is headed up by John Martin (UEFA A License) and he has assembled a squad of qualified coaches to ensure all the boys and girls attending the academy learn skills in a fun-filled environment. The Club invested in a range of new equipment to ensure that the children have every opportunity to grow and develop.
The DDSL has decided to return to winter football from next September and we will update you all just as soon as they inform us how they intend to deal with the financial implications of this decision.
If your child is interested in joining our club, registration will take place in August and September. Simply contact the manager in charge of your child’s age group and take it from there. A full list of managers and training times is available on our website.
Leixlip Utd has made great strides in the recent past thanks to the efforts of many hardworking people but mainly due to the exploits of the boys and girls on the football pitch. We fully intend to continue supporting these boys and girls in the coming years with your help and support. With that in mind we would encourage anyone out there who would like to get involved with our club in any capacity, coaching or committee, to please get in touch with us. I can promise you loads of hard work but huge enjoyment.
Paul Martin, Chairman Leixlip United.
